Tú Yōuyōu (born 30th December 1930), a Chinese pharmaceutical chemist and malariologist, discovered artemisinin (also known as qīnghāosù 青蒿素) and dihydroartemisinin, substances that are used to treat malaria. Her discoveries helped saving millions of lives in South China, Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America. In 2015, she was honored with the Noble Price in Physiology or Medicine.
