On May 26, 2022, In Vitro Diagnostics Regulation (IVDR; Regulation (EU) 2017|746) becomes mandatory and replaces the In Vitro Diagnostics Directive (IVDD; Directive 98/79/EC). However, a progressive roll-out of the new IVDR was decided for existing products.

Thin and thick film evaluations are the gold standard of malaria diagnostic tests. MetaSystems, in collaboration with the University of Milano and the Ospedale Fatebenefratelli-Sacco, Milano, has developed a deep learning algorithm to improve the sensitivity and specificity of malaria microscopy-based evaluations.

Artificial intelligence opens entirely new horizons for image analysis. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is setting up a reference laboratory for biodosimetry/radiobiology in Seibersdorf/Austria. MetaSystems and its long-standing partner Carl Zeiss Germany have donated a fully equipped, automated evaluation platform for the laboratory in Seibersdorf.

Lately it was discovered that many networked devices are vulnerable to remote attacks through 19 vulnerabilities. The flaws, collectively known as Ripple20, affect the TCP/IP stack. Unfortunately, also PC hardware used in combination with MetaSystems devices may be affected, and problems may arise if the network settings are not configured correctly or the workstation is connected directly to the internet. We therefore encourage our customers to update their system(s) to the latest firmware versions provided by the manufacturer.

The outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has led to global efforts to understand the mechanisms of the virus-induced Covid-19 disease and to seek to find effective countermeasures. In this context, our daughter company MetaSystems Italy joined forces with RNA-FISH specialist PixelBiotech for development of highly sensitive and precise SARS-Covid-2 probes.

The Congress 'Genetics of XXI Century' in Moscow, Russia (May 2019) has been one of the most important events for the professional international community of geneticists. N.N.Burdenko National Scientific and Practical Center for Neurosurgery is one of the first MetaSystems’ customers in Russia who implemented FISH on tissues into their daily practice ( in the late 90ies). Together with our partner Carl Zeiss de México S.A. de C.V., MetaSystems conducted a workshop addressing the automation of lab environments in cytogenetics, hematology, pathology, biodosimetry and other fields of work.

The Korea Institute of Toxicology (KIT) is a government-funded research institute to evaluate the safety of medicine, bio-related products and chemicals such as agricultural pesticides, food additives and cosmetics, environmental toxicity and ecotoxicity. In May 2019, Dr. Seong-Hoon Park from KIT organized the first KIT Workshop for Automated Genetic Toxicology Testing. An "International Workshop on Genomic Instability: Basic and Applied Aspects" was jointly organized by Environmental Mutagen Society of India (EMSI) and School of Bio-sciences and Technology, Vellore Institute of Technology under the guidance of Prof. Wilner Martinez-Lopez (Biological Research Institute “Cemente Estable”-Uruguay, IIBCE) and Prof. Radha Saraswathy (School of Bio-sciences and Technology, VIT).

As of late, freshmen studying for the Medical Degree in Linz, Austria are trained in the use of the Ikaros karyotyping system.

MetaSystems proudly announces the opening of our first subsidiary in the Southern hemisphere. The new office is located in Buenos Aires, Argentina and bears the name MetaSystems Latinoamérica SAS (MetaSystems LatAm). The foundation has been the response to the growing demand on technical knowledge and 'know how' experienced in the last years all over the Latin American territories. MetaSystems LatAm takes care for the organization of sales, support, and customer relation activities in all countries in Latin America. It will manage distributor companies and contacts in the region, and it will facilitate communication between end-users, distributors and headquarters in Germany.

Carl Zeiss Microscopy, longtime partner of MetaSystems,  recently published a technical note entitled "Light Microscopy in Clinical Routine Activities. An Overview of ZEISS Axio Imager and Metafer from MetaSystems". The brochure summarizes the history of Metafer and the fruitful partnership with Carl Zeiss and combines both with background knowledge on the many applications Metafer is used for.

A “Hands-on Workshop on FISH and its application in Pathology and Clinical Medicine” was organized by MetaSystems and Department of Pathology, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) to demonstrate the applications of FISH in hematological malignancies and solid tumors.

The yearly MetaSystems Distributor Meeting (DM), brought into life in 2002 as a platform to gather all international partners of MetaSystems and other members of the global MetaSystems family, just ended last week. The DM is being organized in turns by MetaSystems Headquarters, MetaSystems USA (MGI), and MetaSystems Asia. Since MGI is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2018 they decided to choose a special location: Nassau, The Bahamas!

As the first abroad office of MetaSystems, MetaSystems Group, Inc. (MGI) will turn 25 years in 2019. Therefore the company, being the official organizer of the 2018 MetaSystems Distributor Meeting (DM) took advantage of this fact and Dr. Uli Klingbeil, founder of MGI, presented the history of the company on this event. As an acknowledgement of all staff members who helped turning MGI into the thriving enterprise it today is, the company celebrated its birthday on the white sands of the Bahamas, next to Nassau on New Providence Island.

The first MetaSystems User Day took place in Altlussheim, Germany in the last week of September 2018. Approximately 25 guests took the opportunity to learn about the benefits of Neon, RapidScore, and the latest MetaSystems FISH probes.

MetaSystems attended the 2018 International Congress of Genetics being held in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil. The conference is known as one of the most important gatherings in the field of genetics in Latin America. Accordingly, the MetaSystems booth traffic was very busy. People from many Latin American countries took the opportunity to learn more about the latest MetaSystems products including Neon, Metafer, and the latest probes.

MetaSystems proudly announces the launch of the new ultra-high resolution cameras CoolCube4 and CoolCube4 TEC which are available for MetaSystems imaging devices from now on. The new CoolCube4 camera series encompasses 4 models of 1.1" CMOS cameras with resolutions of 4,096 x 3,000 pixels. Users can choose between two monochrome and two color models without active cooling (CoolCube4) or thermo-electrically cooled (CoolCube4 TEC).

At the 28th ECCMID conference in Madrid (April 21-24), MetaSystems GmbH introduces the first assay of its DMI product line. The Bacteremia DMI kit allows identification of the 12 most relevant bacteremia-causing pathogens directly from positive blood cultures in just 35 minutes.

The 3rd International and 15th Iranian Genetic Congress in Tehran was held last week. Our partner VITCO / Vira Idea Trade Co. represented MetaSystems and MetaSystems Probes on the industrial exhibition.

MetaSystems and MetaSystems Probes performed a workshop with exercises in classical FISH hybridization, short time hybridization, RapidScore analysis with Metafer and imaging with Isis. The workshop was done in two groups from Feb. 02 to Feb. 05 in Dubai. UAE.

Since 16 years, the MetaSystems Distributor Meeting (DM) is the annual get-together for all members of the global MetaSystems family. Staff of all MetaSystems offices, of partner companies, and of local sales organizations met in November 2017 to discuss the latest MetaSystems developments and achievements. Biological dosimetry (biodosimetry) is an imminent part of the countermeasures in the aftermath of radiation accidents. Based on the quantification of markers in the blood of affected victims (e.g., dicentric chromosomes, micronuclei, or translocations), the method allows for a precise and retrospective estimation of the dose the persons have received. The National Radiation Emergency Medical Center (NREMC) in the Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences (KIRAMS) recently hosted a MetaSystems workshop on the implementation of Metafer for biodosimetry imaging automation. The workshop has been supported by our Korean partner Mirax Corporation.

Our Partner in Japan, Carl Zeiss Microscopy Co., Ltd (カールツァイスマイクロスコピー株式会社), recently published a Metafer brochure in Japanese language.

MetaSystems held its second workshop in the Middle East this year between the 18th and 21st of February in Dubai, UAE. This time, in addition to a system demonstration, a probes workshop was also included. Over the course of two different workshops (one on the 18th/19th, one on the 20th/21st), 29 participants from 5 countries experienced the ease and quality of MetaSystems FISH probes, software, and hardware. Participants came from Pakistan, Iran, the UAE, Oman, and Lebanon.

For the first time this year, MedLab in Dubai, the world’s largest laboratory exhibition and congress, took place separately from the ArabHealth. Being a leader in microscope based imaging, MetaSystems decided to attend this event in 2017 and to take advantage of direct contacts to regional sales representatives, partner companies, and customers. All companies of the MetaSystems family, namely MetaSystems, MetaSystems Probes, and for the first time MetaSystems Indigo were present at the booth and provided latest news on their respective products and innovations.
